In order to describe the structure of the city we have stablished three big sections: City Center, Metropolitan Madrid and Greater Madrid. In our City Center section and Metropolitan Madrid section we give detailed information of each district, including some historical and social background, maps, photos, and lots of tips to make the most of your stay.

City Center Areas: Downtown Madrid.
These areas make up the historical and tourist center of the city:

• Madrid's core: Puerta del Sol and Opera
• Old Madrid and popular Madrid: Austrias and La Latina
• Callao shopping area: Gran Vía avenue up to Plaza de España
• Museums area: Paseo del Prado & Las Cortes
• Literary Madrid: Atocha and Huertas areas
• Madrid soho: Chueca and always young Malasaña
• Complutense Universityareas: Argüelles and Moncloa
• Residential areas: Colón, Alonso Martínez and Bilbao
• Exclusive shopping area: Salamanca and Retiro
  


Metropolitan Madrid: Urban Madrid.
Areas inside the M-30 ring road, part of Madrid City but without great touristic interest:

• Castellana - Nuevos Ministerios - Chamartín - Cuatro Caminos
• Avenida de América - El Viso
• Legazpi - Embajadores
• Casa de Campo

Greater Madrid: Suburban areas lying outside the M-30 ring road.
Some of them are part of Madrid's city council, others aren't; all of them are inside Madrid's region (Comunidad de Madrid):
