City Center Areas: Downtown Madrid.
These areas make up the historical and tourist center of the city:

- Old Madrid and popular Madrid: Austrias and La Latina
- Callao shopping area: Gran Vía avenue up to Plaza de España
- Museums area: Paseo del Prado & Las Cortes
- Literary Madrid: Atocha and Huertas areas
- Madrid soho: Chueca and always young Malasaña
- Complutense Universityareas: Argüelles and Moncloa
- Residential areas: Colón, Alonso Martínez and Bilbao
- Exclusive shopping area: Salamanca and Retiro

Metropolitan Madrid: Urban Madrid.
Areas inside the M-30 ring road, part of Madrid City but without great touristic interest:
Greater Madrid: Suburban areas lying outside the M-30 ring road.
Some of them are part of Madrid's city council, others aren't; all of them are inside Madrid's region (Comunidad de Madrid):
