This
section covers cities and sites around Madrid
which can be reached in one hour or two. Many
of the cities around Madrid, most notably
Toledo,
were in their day more important than Madrid
itself and are fascinating from a historical,
architectural and artistic perspective. Although
all of the sites can be visited within a day,
we would certainly recommend spending more time
in the more important cities listed below. All
are accessible by the
Cercanías
(commuter trains),
buses
or by private transport.
